Session Approves Partnership
with Clairton Cares
At the November meeting, Session approved a new partnership with Clairton Cares, a collaborative, community-based initiative working to enhance community wellbeing in the city of Clairton. Under the direction of Maddie Nagel, Clairton Cares works with residents, social-services providers, health care practitioners, educators, community leaders and residents to create a holistic model of care focused on community connectivity to strengthen overall wellbeing. Here at JUPC, we are excited to be a part of this partnership!

December 1, 2024 Songs of the Season: Simeon’s Song

Songs of the Season:
Simeon’s Song
December 1, 2024
Did you ever notice that the Christmas story Luke tells is filled with song? At every turn, someone, somewhere is bursting into song! When John the Baptist is born, it’s Zechariah. When the angel announces that Mary will bear the Savior of the world, it’s Mary. When Jesus is born, it’s the choir of angels. When the newborn Jesus first visits the temple, it’s the aged prophet Simeon. So all season long, as we consider Luke’s story, it will be us, the congregation at JUPC!
Join us on Sunday as we begin the Advent Season with Simeon’s song. Our Scripture passage will be Luke 2:25-38. We will also celebrate the Sacrament of Communion. Please join us in the sanctuary or online. The service will be live-streamed at 11:00 on the Jefferson United Presbyterian Church YouTube Channel and available any time afterward.

December 1: Advent Begins

Advent is a time of waiting. We remember the long time of waiting for the “long expected Jesus” as people awaited the Messiah. We remember Mary waiting the birth of Jesus. And we remember that we, too, are waiting the return of Jesus.

The greens have been hung in the church. By next Sunday, Thanksgiving will be behind us and Christmas will soon be here. Perhaps too soon. This calendar year has one of the shortest times between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

But we ask you to take time to think about the advents of Jesus, and ask you to join us on Sunday, December 3 for communion.
